‘...though she be but little, she is fierce.’
(Helena - Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Act 3 - Scene 2)
BobCat Gallery is collaborating with Cass Art to take over their Kingston Art Space this September, for an exhibition focused exclusively on female artists and I'll have 5 paintings included in the Exhibition.
‘Tiny, But Fierce’ will showcase small scale artworks from BobCat Gallery artists identifying as female - highlighting the talent and varied perspectives of 21 women artists.
Catherine Sweet, Curator and Founder of BobCat Gallery, says: “This will be a lively exhibition of small but perfectly formed pieces, with a specially curated collection of painting, drawing, glass sculpture, printmaking and more.
Although many would ask, ‘doesn’t the art matter more than the gender of the artist?’, I would still argue that the inherent bias in the art world favours ‘male’ artists to this day.
While there are millions of talented female and/or womxn artists around the globe, they are routinely presented with fewer opportunities to show their work. That’s something I am determined to challenge, along with long standing cultural ideals about female roles, power and autonomy.”
